Mr. Yan Chang is SVP and General Manager of Personal Loan business in Discover Financial Services. He is responsible for delivering profitable returns for personal loans. Prior to this, Mr. Chang was VP and Chief Credit Officer of Consumer Banking. Before joining Discover Financial Services in 1999. Mr. Chang worked for GE Capital and First National Bank of Chicago (now JP Morgan).

Mr. Chang holds a MBA from Kellogg School of Management and a MS in Statistics from the University of Cincinnati.

Job Description:

Knowledge:
· Good knowledge of financial theory; risk related models (credit, market, operational and liquidity etc.), capital (EC, RC) and stress testing models, pricing and valuation models etc.
· Good knowledge of quantitative data mining and statistical analysis techniques; pertaining to risk modeling, particularly in wholesale credit risk and operational risk modeling would be an asset
· Knowledge of wholesale credit management, lending process and credit process as an asset
· Good understanding of regulatory requirements of Basel, ICAAP, CCAR/DFAST requirements, in particular related to credit and operational loss estimation

Skills:
· Detail-oriented, analytical, well organized, highly self-motivated and good interpersonal skills
· Effective time management in order to efficiently deliver concurrent projects with competing priorities
· Good ability of conflict-solving; and ability to collaboratively work with model owner/sponsor counterparts
· Effective presentation and communication skills; Ability to convey complex concepts and outcomes to non-subject matter experts.
· Excellent computing development skills, particularly statistical and database modeling tools (SAS, R, MATLAB, Access/VBA etc.). Ability to adapt to various programming languages and environments. Advanced SAS proficiency is required
Education and Accreditations:
· Master degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Econometrics etc.
· PhD in quantitative field or combination of quantitative preferred

He is a Financial Risk Manager and a CFA charter holder. Neno started his career as a risk analyst at AlphaMetrix where he would monitor and create risk reports for various systematic and discretionary, hedge funds and commodity trading advisers. He later worked at Duff & Phelps investment management helping investment teams to launch new close end funds mainly in the Utilities and Infrastructure sectors. Neno most recently worked for 3 years at Guggenheim partners where he was responsible to provide portfolio managers with equity and fixed income attribution analysis for various asset classes including high yield and bank loan investments

Sabrina Xing Su, CFA

Xing (Sabrina) Su, CFA is an MBA student at University of Chicago Booth School of Business. She received her CFA charter in 2012. Most recently, Sabrina worked as an associate portfolio manager at Dimensional Fund Advisors (DFA); she conducted empirical studies and devised a new investment strategy governing IPO stocks. Before joining DFA in 2014, Sabrina worked at Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) in Equity Derivatives. She was responsible for launching new derivative products, devising risk solutions for clients, and managing revenue growth strategies, and was heavily involved in business development in China. She started her career as a research analyst with CME Research Department in 2009 and published 9 white papers on derivative investing and risk management. Sabrina received her double-undergraduate degree from Nanjing University in China and Nanyang Technological University in Singapore. She also holds a Master of Computational Finance with Distinction from DePaul University.

Kristan M. Rowland, CFA

Kristan Rowland, CFA is a member of the global research team on the buy-side at William Blair & Company and currently covers the Financials sector. Most recently, Kristan worked in private wealth at William Blair. Prior to joining William Blair in 2011, she spent four years as a buy-side research analyst at Mesirow Financial; she supported Mesirow’s smid value, small value and micro-cap value strategies with primary coverage of the Financials sector. Earlier, Kristan was an equity analyst at Morningstar, where she covered business services companies.   • Proactively support branch new business promotions.
  • Maintain an awareness of competitive products, practices, rates and changes in the local market.
  • May be required to assist customers with reviewing, completing and signing loan documents for retail loan products.
  • Answer customer inquiries and provide solutions to problems and make recommendations as appropriate.
  • Perform customer service functions such as check orders, change of address, return mail processing, and other account maintenance changes.
  • May prepare and monitor TCD loans.
  • May process TCD interest payment changes.
  • Supercede Signature Cards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum qualifications/requirements:

  • College degree with business classes preferred, but not mandatory.
  • 2 – 3 years bank teller experience preferred.
  • Thorough knowledge of Bank products and services.
  • PC literate and typing proficient.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to function in a team environment.
  • Bilingual (English/Mandarin or Cantonese) a plus.
  • Must be knowledgeable of and adhere to regulations and policies affecting new account processing.

Equity Research Internship Position

Unpaid internship with the equity research team of an emerging research firm. The position does not sponsor working visa but managers can provide good referral letters.

Responsibilities

5-10 hours of work each week. Can work from home. Now through this September.

  • Aggregate information from public resources (investor presentations, filings, WSJ, Barron’s, Fortune, etc) at the instruction of managing principals to support investment thesis of stock ideas.
  • Summarize third-party research materials and develop main thesis points behind long or shorting a stock.
  • Review 10-Ks, 10-Qs, and 8-Ks for due diligence purposes.
  • Communicate with investor relations team at the company to verify key facts critical to long/short thesis.

Qualification

  • Major in finance and accounting.
  • Passion about fundamental-driven equity research.
  • Self-starter that takes initiatives.
  • Strong research and analytical skills.
  • CFA level 1 or 2 preferred.
  • Highly proficient with excel, word and powerpoint (consulting-level)
